That dreaded sinking feeling you get when you discover that your
computer has succumbed to an attack or critical failure. Were you
prepared? A disaster recovery plan is a basic requirement for any
business.
The only thing predictable about disasters is that
they happen unpredictably. And in the event of a disaster - no matter
whether it is a system failure, vandalism, fire or other natural
disaster - business that have pre-determined plans and procedures will
recover much faster than those without.
These days, protecting
your data is not an option. Recent government regulations, including
Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA, require that thorough security measures be
enacted. A disaster mitigation and recovery policy addresses business
processes, continuity requirements, and the precautions necessary to
minimize the effects of such a situation. This will enable businesses
to maintain or quickly resume critical business functions.
Effective
disaster mitigation and recovery practice includes backing up business
data to safeguard against losing information on your hard disk drives.
The best option is offsite data storage and backups, as natural
disasters can destroy computer rooms and buildings. This allows
business systems to be restored with full system and data integrity.
